Food Inspiration: Peaches and Pork Chops

I can't get enough fresh peaches and I wanted to use them as part of an entree.  I like peaches with pork and this recipe was fantastic.  I wanted to take a photo of my own but I couldn't pull myself away from the table to grab my camera, it was that good.  I hope you give it a try.

The pork chop part of the recipe is easy, just add some crushed cumin seeds to the salt and pepper when you season the chops prior to grilling.
The fruit salsa is a lovely combination of sweet peaches paired with smoky chipotles in adobo rounded out by red onion, cilantro and lime juice.  Click on the recipe title above to be taken to the epicurious.com recipe.
ENJOY!

Vinous Colored Shoes

Move over nude pumps and make way for vinous colored heels.

I was helping a friend shop for shoes to wear to a wedding on Saturday and I was stunned by the staggering selection of shoes in the vinous or wine colored palette.  Typical color names are claret, burgundy, bordeaux, to name a few.  How much more interesting is this color for Fall than the nude pumps from Spring?  These shoes would pop paired with clothing in gray, camel, navy or black.  How about with a forest green tweed pencil skirt?

Vinous Pumps

I am smitten by the Tahari pumps, center of bottom row.

If heels aren't for you, or you need a more casual shoe, no worries...

Wine colored shoes

...there are plenty of flats and loafer-pumps to choose from.

Fall Transition

Labor Day  arrived and so did fall.  Morning temperatures dipped into the low 50's with daytime temps cool as well.  It is time to start thinking beyond flip flops and tank tops.

A recent J Crew email featured this idea of how to wear a pencil skirt now and later.  I love a pencil skirt and the J Crew skirts fit me well so I'll be following their advice.

Today I switched from my floral print handbag to a more fall-like orange Cole Haan bag I've had for a few years but still love.

Over the weekend I'll switch out my real summery clothing and start sorting my closet for donations and consignment shop.

I hope you have wonderful plans for the weekend, relaxing and connecting with friends and family.  See you on Monday.

Hem Gems: Genius Idea

I was sitting at the airport the other day watching a woman fidget with the hem or her pants.  Ok, I was staring.  I finally asked her what she was doing and she told me she was taking up the hem of her pants.  She showed me these little studs, called Hem Gems.

Classic rivet, $19.99 for a pack of 8
These studs with clutches can temporarily hem your pants.  You can choose a decorative stud or one that is quite plain.  There are 3 designs in several finishes.

  • You can use Hem Gems to turn your hem under or to cuff the hem.
  • Prevent your hem from fraying
  • Wear your longer pants and jeans with flats AND heels
  • Keep your original hem
This is a great product for travel and eliminates the need to pack jeans of several lengths.
How handy would this be on a rainy day to prevent your pants hem from getting soaked!!

What do you think?  Good idea?

The Most Lovely of Weekends

As mother of the bride, I was able to surreptitiously take this photo during my daughter's wedding on Sunday.  I know I am prejudiced but I think she was stunningly beautiful bride and she married an incredible man who I am thrilled to call my son-in-law.

The entire wedding weekend was as perfect as could have been hoped for and the love and support of family and friends was extraordinary.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend.  The unofficial end of summer came too soon.  Are you ready for fall and back to school?

I think I'll take a few days off to decompress.  See you on Thursday.
Cheers!

Etsy Find

I have a very special event this weekend.  Our daughter is getting married.  As mother of the bride, I chose a dress quite a while ago (Badgley Mishka) and found shoes that I can dance in.  But finding an appropriate bag that wasn't gaudy and beaded was a problem.  So I went to Etsy and found this gorgeous handcrafted bag.

Silk Dupioni Bow Clutch

This bag is available in many colors with nickel silver or antique brass frame.

The craftsmanship on these bags is awesome.
Click here to view the website.  If you need a special occasion bag, look here first.

I'm anticipating a spectacular weekend.  I hope to have photos for you next week.
Enjoy your Labor Day weekend.  See you on Tuesday.
