Crafty Hand Painted Glassware

I saw this crafty, DIY idea on The Chew.  I don't know where I've been but I just discovered this show hosted by Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Clinton Kelly, Carla Hall, and Daphne Oz.  While the show is mostly about food, there is a crafty segment on occasion.  OK, I digress...

from Clinton's Craft Corner on The Chew
About a month ago, the craft segment was hand painted glassware.  Now don't click off yet, this is very easy and fun.
All you need are:
 some drinking glasses
Q tips
 acrylic paint
I spread out newspaper and found some little containers for mixing my paint.  You could easily use a paper plate as your paint mixing palette.  I bought paint to match some dishes I already owned.  You can use multiple colors or make an ombre effect by adding with white to your base color and making the dots lighter as you work your way up the glass.
Once you have your paint ready, just dip a Q tip into the paint and dab it straight onto the glass.  Press and release.
View from the inside of the glass.
When the paint is dry, place the glasses upside down on a baking sheet and place in a cold oven.  Turn on the oven to 350 degrees F and bake for 30 minutes to set the paint.  Turn off the oven and allow to cool in the oven for 1 hour before handling.  Hand wash your glasses rather than using the dishwasher.
I'm really happy with the way these turned out.  I bought these cheap dishes and glasses at Ikea for use on my deck.  These glasses are fun and really pull the look together.

Monday Musings

Autumn is definitely here in southeast Michigan.  The weather is cool, the skies are gray and for now, the leaves are beautiful hues of orange, red and yellow.
Hubby and I decided it was time we finally visit the Eastern Market in Detroit.  We have read about it for years but never put it on the calendar.  We live near several great Farmers Markets and shop them regularly but we thought we'd explore something new.

I did not expect to see such a beautiful structure housing a market and this is just one of the buildings on the 43 acres of the Eastern Market.  Open since 1891, up to 40,000 people vist the more than 250 vendors each Saturday.

These modern "sheds" are bright, clean, and spacious.

There are vendors outside of the sheds along covered walkways.

The variety and freshness of food is outstanding.

Prior to shopping we had a delicious breakfast at the Russel Street Deli.
I had scrambled eggs with peppers, basil, asiago and provolone cheese.  Great homefries too!

I came upon this great shop, Savvy Chic.

Stepping into the shop is like entering Provence.  The eclectic boutique carries vintage and new home and garden goods, food items, art and vintage clothing.  I went home with a scented candle.

Several vendors caught my eye but I ran out of time.  I'll head back to the market soon...maybe to shop for the Thanksgiving Feast.

You may have noticed this "button" at the lower right of each photo.  If you click on it, you can pin the photo to one of your Pinterest boards.  It is a great way to save a recipe, idea, or an image for future recall.  Happy Pinning!

Have you read Gone Girl?
This book was a huge hit over the summer.  I got tired of waiting for my reserve request at the library and purchased it for my Kindle.  I thought it was a really dark suspense read.  Have you read it?  What did you think?

Have a spectacular beginning to a new week.

After a crazy weekend of travel and celebration it is nice to be back home and experience a bit of a mundane Monday.

Happy Monday everyone.  Hope you had a splendid weekend.

Chevron: The Alternative Stripe

I am a big fan of stripes and the combination of straight stripes and chevron stripes is about perfect, in my estimation, for a big WOW!

I could definitely live with the bold use of color and only pattern of chevron rug as in this room.

Maybe a pillow would be a good place to start.

Patriotic Pinterest Picks

I am very new to Pinterest, a virtual pinboard, where you can collect all the wonderful things you've found on the web.  Here are a few of my patriotic picks for the 4th of July.

Pinterest is  like a folder of all the things you've been saving for years from magazines but with no clutter on your desk.  It is all there on the web for you to check out whenever you want inspiration or share with a friend or anyone who is interested to see what inspires you.
